        David Burrow is a drummer and percussionist who began by bashing back-beats, grew up learning his standards, studied at a conservatory, and now combines his influences, instincts and education to create his sound.  He is currently performing and teaching in Portland, Oregon.

        David’s musical education began at Mt. Hood Community College where he studied with Hal Malcolm, Larry McVey and Dr. Larry Zgonc. 

It was there that his pursuit of Jazz began, logging countless hours of practicing and listening to Jazz records and the old KMHD.  He went on to earn his Master of Music degree in Percussion Performance and Music Theory from the University of Oregon School of Music, studying classical percussion with Charles Dowd and theory with Dr. Robert Hurwitz.

        A composer of modern chamber music, Mr. Burrow’s compositions have premiered at the Peabody Conservatory, Seattle’s Bumbershoot Festival and Eugene’s Beall Concert Hall and Dougherty Dance Theatre. 

He is the artistic director and co-founder of the AupChip Percussion Ensemble which performs and records chamber music without common limits.  He is also an experienced theater and dance percussionist and has accompanied master classes and performed with numerous choreographers including Bill T. Jones, David Parsons and the Alvin Ailey Co.

        David is currently active in the Portland music community where he performs and records with many different artists, including Walkfast, and

his own groups,  Bobblehead and The Trio.  His recorded work is heard on

16 compact discs to date and works are always in progress.
